S*kfani-Class Medium Fighter

In concept designed to be a midpoint between the anti-fighter Light Fighters and the ship harrassing Space Superiority Heavy Fighters, the S*kfani class Medium Fighter is one of the prime space fighters of the Federation Navy, used exclusively by the Ithklur. 2 Ithklur crew the S*kfani (named for an honored Ithklur who died a captive of the K'kree in the Hiver-K'kree War (-2029 to -2013 Imperial)), one as pilot/laser gunner and the other as SIO (Sensors Intercept Officer). The pilot maneuvers the fighter and fires the laser and the SIO handles the electronics, communications, MFD, and missle control.

The S*kfani is the name the Ithklur have given the class, the Hiver designation translated as "FN-IMF-S2 Mk V" or Federation Navy-Ithklur Medium Fighter-Model S 2, Mark V. Each Ithklur pair typically name their Fighter ("Bob" being a very common name) and come to consider it of possessing a Chalor, or true self, as soon if it begins to exhibitting any individual characteristics. Also, each pilot will affix a snowglobe or *sharis next to his control station, though fuzzy dice are popular among pilots, as well. As with all Ithklur military hardware, each fighter is decorated and displayed w/ its history and stories and diagrams of important engagements and manuevers. In wartime, missles have their warheads darkened.

5 standard missles are held in unstreamlined grapples on the S*kfani. To skim fuel, SOP calls for the missles to be released, as it hazardous to perform gas giant refueling in an unstreamlined configuration. The missles are held by MFD for further use in combat. Should the situation warrant the remounting of them, the assitance of an Ithklur crewman going EVA is required. When on board Carrier (particularly the LC-IIIa), the fighters are fueled and stored as such, pre-launch.

Power requirements necessitate the shutdown of the CG Lifters to allow full combat performance. For gas giant refueling or landing operations, the laser lance must be shut down, as well as either the MFD or the maser comm (depending on the situation).
