Lu*ern-Class Heavy Fighter

A modification of the F'naah Class Heavy Fighters, the Lu*ern is designed to defend Federation capital ships and act in a purely defensive role... primarily in a missle screening form. The 600Mj laser lance is upgraded to a 200 ROF.

Lu*ern means "sanctuary" in Ithklur and refers to their custom of safe havens from the violence of typical Ithklur society. The Hiver designation only shows it as being an addition model of the "IHF-F3" class heavy fighters, but the Ithklur insist on referring to the new ships as Lu*ern (many think that the Ithklur are thoroughly enjoying inserting more of their own language and culture into the circles of the Federation Navy and various Navy related Topical Clubs) The name is quite descriptive considering the role as protectors of the Federation capital ships.

Emphasis remains on defense but the Lu*ern is more than capable of damaging craft which threaten the parent capital ship.

Three Ithklur man the Lu*ern in roles of Pilot, SIO, and Gunner. Gunner is in command and hot bunking in the small stateroom is the norm on long duration missions, which are rare.
